Keeps your salt dry! The burnay salt jar is an earthenware pot made from clay abundant in the western areas of Vigan. The tradition dates back to pre-colonial times when Chinese immigrants first settled in Vigan. Today, Burnay potters still hand-make jars using traditional methods that involve a pottery wheel and kiln. Burnay jars are still used for dr storing salt, sugar, water, Basi (local wine), vinegar and bagoong (fermented fish sauce). The jars are much stronger than terracotta and enrich the flavor of their contents.
