Barikoskos Placemats

Barikoskos is the Ilocano term for swirl.  This pattern uses the binakul (twist) technique involves the creative twisting of the threads. The designs were influenced by 18th Century Eastern European textiles.  The Barikosos weave is characterized by the optical illusion it presents.  It was originally intended to be used to ward off evil spirits.
